"Foreign students of Kharkov University"

From November 2014 to April 2015 a sociological research "Foreign students of Kharkov University" was carried out by the Institute of Social and Humanities Research of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in cooperation with the Department of Methods of Sociological Research of the School of Sociology.
The aim of the study was to determine the living conditions of foreign students in Kharkov and in Ukraine, their attitude to study at Kharkov University, and especially relations with Ukrainian students.
Foreign students of 9 faculties of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University (namely biological; the faculty of geology, geography, recreation and tourism; economic; foreign languages; the faculty of international economic relations and tourism business; medical; faculty of law; philological; preparatory faculty, n=1226) were interviewed, as well as Ukrainian students of 8 faculties (namely biological; the faculty of geology, geography, recreation and tourism; economic; foreign languages; the faculty of international economic relations and tourism business; medical; faculty of law; philological, n=996).
The study examined: motivation for study in V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University of foreign students, relationships and friendship between the Ukrainian and foreign students, foreign students’ plans for the future, ways of learning Russian language, as well as negative attitude towards foreign students of different nationalities, the threats to their personal safety, conflict with the participation of foreign students, the cases of corruption in the university, anxiety among international students, etc.
